Mindy Solomon is pleased to present a solo presentation of works by Yanira Collado. Collado’s practice considers concepts that speak to the restoration of Caribbean histories once muted by both natural and human interventions, including the disruption of Indigenous cultures and the paradoxes of time. Simultaneously exploring cultural identity, colonialism, and post-colonialism within the contemporary context of globalization, Collado summons these ideas through construction materials, reclaimed literary texts, wood, concrete, textiles, iron, and drywall. All of these materials contain inherent geographic histories, processes, and economies that imply varying degrees of ritual, cultural value, tradition, and both personal and collective memory. Her work assembles a visual language that reconciles the ways in which histories are recorded, stored, and retrieved. Collado’s Dominican heritage serves as a primary reference point for her visual storytelling.
For the Armory Show 2026 presentation, Collado will create a central installation accompanied by additional works in dialogue with the primary element. Each image will occupy its own distinct space, with careful attention given to surface details and textural variations.
