Portraits of Everything
Mindy Solomon is pleased to exhibit Portraits of Everything a solo presentation of Jaime Hayon’s works at CAN Art Ibiza 2023.
Hayon states: In my latest artistic endeavor, I have delved into the creation of characters through the use of color and floral expression. Over the course of my career, I have observed the presence of characters, metamorphic animals, and surrealistic flowers in the world around me. My exploration has been rooted in the notion that these characters exist all around us, and it simply takes a discerning eye to perceive them.
To bring these characters to life, I have employed a variety of mediums, including ceramics, acrylic, and oil on canvases. Through these materials, I have crafted miniature architectures and portraits of these characters. Some of my paintings feature imaginary flowers and animals that I have conjured from my own imagination. The work is an exploration of grotesque animals and faces, as well as flowers that exist solely in the realm of the imaginary.
My paintings serve as a representation of the tension that permeates our daily lives. The compositions are suspended in the air, as if they have no fixed destination. The exhibition, entitled “Portraits of Everything,” is focused on bridging the gap between the imaginary and the real, and vice versa. This collection of paintings serves as a window into a new world that I have been constructing for the past 25 years.
The forms and heads that I have created using ceramics are particularly unique, with a striking contrast between the perfection of those crafted in Venice and the rawness of those made from earthenware in Valencia. The latter were designed to be more expressive and less serious, with a focus on the form and plasticity of the materials used. Each piece was crafted entirely by hand, without the use of any molds.
Ultimately, my exhibition is an attempt to construct a new world, one in which color and form are used to transport the viewer away from reality and into a realm of imagination. The use of colorful frames serves to complement the paintings and enhance the overall experience for the viewer.
