About Joyce Billet
Trained in architecture, Joyce Billet explores the intersections of painting, sculpture, and design through an expanded material practice that examines texture, process, and transformation. Her work navigates the dialogue between the analog and the digital, drawing from themes of nature, absence, and materiality. Beginning with photography and abstract painting, Billet captures organic surfaces that are translated into digital drawings and subsequently machine-cut, etched, and carved into wood.
Central to Billet’s practice is an ongoing investigation into humanity’s evolving relationship with the natural world and technology. Working primarily with plywood, she reclaims an industrial material whose origins in the forest have been obscured through manufacturing. Through meticulous carving, layering, and assembly, Billet restores a sense of tactility and organic presence, transforming each work into a meditation on growth, erosion, memory, and regeneration.
Recent projects reflect an increasing engagement with architecture, landscape, and public space. In 2026, Forces of Nature, a permanent public art commission for Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places, was installed at Village of Casa Familia, comprising sculptural canopies, seating elements, mirrored sculptures, and integrated landscaping designed to create an immersive sensory environment. In 2025, Billet presented a special project at Design Miami in collaboration with Villa Albertine and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, featuring the sculptural benches Rising and Rooted alongside Woven, a living wall sculpture integrating native plant species. She was also commissioned by architect Peter Marino to create a permanent large-scale installation for the Dior flagship in New York City in 2025.
